packing list for golf trip - almightygolf - main

I remember my first golf trip vividly.

A group of 8 of us went to Osoyoos, BC for 3 days and 2 nights.

I packed my clubs and gear but forgot the essentials like extra golf balls and tees.

I didn’t actually “forget” but I figured I was good enough not to lose so many – that was a mistake.

I had to scrounge around looking for golf balls because I didn’t want to buy a new sleeve, and I used some broken tees I found on the tee box – lesson learned.

Now, packing for a golf trip is exciting.

You’re thinking about being with your best buddies, playing golf, drinking, etc., and this type of thinking can be overwhelming if it’s your first time.

Luckily you have me and you can learn from my past mistakes.

So here’s the exact golf trip packing list I use whenever I have an important golf trip coming up.

Also, if you’re looking for a hardcopy, I found this one from Pinterest that you might like.

Packing List For Golf Trip – Essential Golf Gear

Trust me when I say this, having the right gear makes all the difference.

You don’t want to be that guy struggling to make tee time because they forgot the essentials.

Here’s your essential golf gear checklist to keep your golf game on point.

1. Golf Clubs and Bag

You need to pack your clubs, right?

Choose your drivers, irons, and putters wisely—don’t bring your whole set unless you plan on playing all out.

Ensure your bag’s ready too. Inspect the pockets and take out any old bottles, food, scorecards, etc.

There’s nothing worse than getting detained at the airport because you have some liquid in your bag.

2. Golf Balls and Tees

You can’t play golf without balls and tees!

It’s crucial you pack at least a dozen balls or more, you never know when you might lose a few or if someone in your group needs a few extra.

And don’t skimp on tees!

I know what you’re thinking “These plastic tees hold up pretty well, so I don’t need to bring a lot”.

Stop! Just bring a dozen in case, especially if you’re playing multiple rounds.

Bring different lengths too. Regular, short, and maybe even a few longer ones for certain drives.

3. Golf Shoes

You need comfortable golf shoes especially if you plan on walking throughout the day!

Invest in a pair of golf shoes that’s cushioned and has good grip or spikes.

You’ll want shoes that can handle all terrains, from damp grass to solid fairways. Keep ’em clean to avoid those muddy marks on the golf course.

I’ve also read that some people bring multiple golf shoes to interchange between the rounds, so consider that too.

4. Golf Glove

You gotta have a good golf gloves!

This isn’t just about style— it’s about grip.

A well-fitted glove helps you keep hold of the club, especially on a hot day when sweat can be an issue.

Don’t forget to check for wear. I remember the pair I brought had a hole in the palm of the glove.

Luckily I had a new set in the bag.

5. Golf Towel

You need a golf towel, period. A clean one too!

Having a clean towel is crucial for wiping down your clubs and keeping your hands dry.

Take the extra time before your trip to put your towels in the wash. You don’t want to be that guy with extra layers of hard mud stuck on their towel.

6. Golf GPS or Rangefinder

Don’t forget your rangefinder or your golf GPS. It’s one of my golf gadgets I can’t leave without.

I know some people swear by the app on their phone but some of the apps (especially the free ones) don’t give accurate distances if there’s a slope.

7. Pencil, Pen, or Sharpie

You can’t forget a pencil, pen, or sharpie! You need these to keep score on your scorecard or for random stuff.

As for the sharpie, use it to mark your golf balls with your initials. That way, you’ll never confuse yours with someone else’s again!

8. Umbrella

If you plan on walking the golf course and not taking a cart, consider bringing an umbrella, regardless of the weather conditions.

Whether it’s scorching hot, or wet and raining, it’s one of those things where you wish you brought it.

9. Golf Brush and Groove Cleaner

You can’t skip a golf brush and groove cleaner!

Mine’s attached to my bag so it doesn’t go anywhere.

10. Hat Clips and Ball Markers

You should have hat clips and ball markers handy.

These little guys keep your game organized and professional.

Clip your marker on your cap and never lose sight of where to mark your ball.

If you can, bring a few. A couple of beers with your buddies will make you start forgetting where you put these.

Packing List For Golf Trip – Summer Edition

Now that we got the essential golf gear out of the way, let’s talk about the additional gear if you’re planning a golf getaway in the summer.

From golf clothes to protection against the elements, here’s what you need.

1. Summer Clothing

Bring any shorts and shirts that are lightweight and breathable.

My golfing buddies swear by moisture-wicking fabrics to keep you cool and dry during those long rounds under the sun.

Think about packing two or three of each. Don’t just reuse the same one over and over.

While you’re at it, don’t forget a light pullover or jacket for those breezy afternoons.

Lastly, it goes without saying, but check the dress code at the course and make sure your attire is OK.

2. Sunscreen

Regardless if you burn easily or you like to tan, sunscreen is a must-have if you want to protect your skin.

You don’t want to deal with a burnt nose or sun-damaged skin after an epic day on the course.

Pack a small bottle in your golf bag so it’s ready when you need it.

Pro tip: get a lip balm with UV protection too. You don’t realize it, but your lips can get burned and it sucks!

3. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are one of those things that if you forget it, you’ll be kicking yourself.

It’s also one of those things where your friends won’t give them yours, unlike golf balls.

Ensure it’s polarized sunglasses too.

They’ll help protect your eyes and reduce glare from the sun reflecting off the water hazard.

Choose a pair that fits comfortably. Too tight and your head will start hurting.

4. Golf Hat Or Visor

A stylish golf hat, combined with those shades, is the ultimate summer duo for sunny rounds.

You might want to consider a hat with moisture-wicking properties for added comfort.

Personally, I bring a hat and a bucket hat.

5. Cooling Towels

Cooling towels are a lifesaver when the temperature soars.

Didn’t think these were necessary until I used a friend’s extra one.

Just wet ’em, snap ’em, and drape ’em around your neck—instant relief.

They’re lightweight and easy to carry, making them perfect for stashing in your golf bag, too.

Just make sure you wash them after every round.

6. Insect Repellent

Depending on where you’re going, mosquitoes can be real pests on the course in summer.

Pack a small spray bottle of insect repellent to keep those buzzers at bay, especially if you’re playing near water.

Look for a DEET-free option if you prefer something less harsh on your skin.

7. Sunburn Cream or Aloe Vera

In case the sunscreen doesn’t cut it, having some sunburn cream or aloe vera gel is a smart backup.

You never know when you might catch too many rays.

Aloe’s soothing properties would be a welcome relief for that post-game redness.

Packing List For Golf Trip – Fall / Winter Edition

Now, if you’re traveling during the fall or winter, here’s a list for you.

Let’s make sure you’ve got everything you need to deal with those chilly days and unexpected showers.

1. Rain Gear

This is a no-brainer. If you’re going somewhere in the fall/winter, you need to prepare in case of rain.

Think waterproof jackets, waterproof pants, and a waterproof outer shell to keep you dry.

These layers not only shield you from the rain but also ensure you stay warm and comfy.

Remember, staying dry is the key to enjoying the round, so don’t skimp on quality.

2. Rain Gloves

Rain gloves are a game-changer when the weather turns dicey.

They help maintain your grip when everything else feels slick. No one enjoys the feeling of a club slipping in their hands mid-swing!

Also, look for gloves that have some breathability. You want something that keeps moisture out while allowing your hands to breathe.

3. Hand Warmers

This is another item I didn’t think of ever bringing but glad my friend had a few extra to spare.

Hand warmers can be a lifesaver on those frosty mornings.

Just slip them into your pockets or your gloves, and you’ll feel like you’re holding a toasty cup of coffee.

Trust me, keeping your fingers warm can mean the world when you’re teeing off in the cold.

It’s all about staying comfortable out there, so don’t leave home without these tiny gems.

4. Golf Bag Rain Cover

A golf bag rain cover is a must-have for your checklist for a golf trip. Think of it like a raincoat for your bag.

It protects your clubs and gear from getting drenched.

I typically just leave mine in my bag regardless of the weather because I’m too lazy to store it anywhere else.

5. Extra Towels / Rags

Extra towels or rags should be high on your list of most important items for a golf trip.

They’re essential for drying off your clubs, wiping down sweaty hands, or even cleaning mud off those shoes.

Wet, filthy grips equal less-than-ideal shots.

So stock up – your future self will thank you!

6. Extra Socks

You can’t underestimate the power of extra socks.

When the weather turns chilly, wet feet aren’t just uncomfortable – they ruin a good round.

Long johns are great, but pair ‘em with warm, dry socks, and you’re golden.

Always have a backup stash – you never know when you’ll need them, especially if you step in a puddle!

7. Warm Attire

Warm attire is your best friend during fall and winter rounds.

Long johns and long-sleeved shirts provide extra insulation against the cold.

The key here is layering. It allows you to adjust based on your comfort (if you get too warm, just peel off a layer!).

Packing List For Golf Trip – Travel Essentials

Now that we have the essential gear and the proper weather attire out of the way, here’s a list of general stuff to bring.

1. Travel Bag

You’ll need a sturdy travel bag to haul your clubs and gear.

Consider getting a wheeled bag; it makes airport travel a breeze.

A padded bag protects your prized sticks from damage, and some even have extra pockets for balls and tees.

2. Luggage

You should have space for your casual clothes and other essentials, so choose lightweight luggage to keep things easy.

If you’re going for a weekend golf trip then a medium-sized suitcase usually does the trick.

Plus, make sure you can easily identify your bag on that carousel—bright colors or unique tags help.

Oh, and don’t forget your golf shoes; they need their spot too!

3. Passport and Travel Documents

You can’t enjoy your golf vacation without the right documents.

Keep your passport, ID, and any necessary reservation confirmations handy.

Consider a travel wallet; it keeps everything organized.

Check online for any local golf regulations that might require additional permits.

4. Travel Insurance

Another no-brainer to have because you just never know what could happen.

What if you accidentally get injured or eat something bad?

Or what if the airline carrier loses your bag? You need to protect your investment!

It’s something you didn’t think you needed, but definitely something you wish you had if something goes wrong.

And, depending on your coverage, it might cover more than you think.

5. Portable Charger

Nice to have when you’re using your phone as a GPS/Scorecard and if you have a portable speaker.

Personally, I don’t bring one, but I can see the benefit of it.

6. Medications and First Aid Kit

Even if you don’t golf, bringing your medication and a first aid kit should be standard for traveling.

Don’t let a headache or sudden allergy ruin your trip.

Pack any medications you rely on, plus a first aid kit stocked with essentials like band-aids and pain relievers.

7. Travel Adapters

Are you jetting off to a different country? Don’t forget travel adapters!

Different places have different plug systems.

It’s frustrating if your charger doesn’t fit into the wall. Grab a universal adapter, and you’ll be set no matter where you play.

8. Casual Attire

Pack a mix of comfortable and stylish clothes for going out after the round.

Breathable fabrics work great for warm days, and layering options are smart for cooler nights.

9. Swimwear

Depending on your destination, you might find a hot tub, sauna, pool, or beach nearby.

Don’t forget your swimwear; it’s perfect for a post-golf chill session.

After a long day on the green, nothing beats a refreshing dip. You’ll be rejuvenated and ready for another round!

10. Travel-Size Toiletries

Traveling light is key.

Grab those travel-size toiletries; they fit any bag without weighing you down.

Plus, they’re often okay to bring in carry-ons, eliminating those last-minute airport buys.

11. Portable Speaker

It’s nice having some beats when you’re playing, but speakers aren’t just for the course.

It’s also nice to enjoy while lounging or grilling at the hotel.

12. Camera or Smartphone

I’m sure everyone will have this, just don’t forget to take some fun group shots and capture some memorable moments.

These memories will haunt your group chat a few months later and will be the catalyst to plan your next golf trip.

13. Portable Massage Gun

A portable massage gun can work wonders on sore spots.

Playing a full 18 holes can lead to tight muscles and if you’re playing multiple rounds throughout the trip, definitely consider bringing one.

14. Stretch Bands

Stretch bands help you warm up and cool down.

Before your round, loosen up those muscles to enhance your swing. Don’t forget to stretch after the round too.

15. Foam Roller or Lacrosse Ball

Post flight or after a day on the links, a foam roller or lacrosse ball can target those sore muscles.

You’ll avoid stiffness and keep your game sharp.
